I picture this as a nice piece of wood, and can see how you can support it with no cabinets underneath... but why?i am mounting a 98"x23" walnut slab about 2" thick. what is the best way to frame the support for the countertop to float across the 98" span? there are no cabinets or boxes underneath?
thanks
it will need to rest on top and two 2x6 nailed together work much better than one single 4x6 for horizontal span purposes...whats the best way to fame it. the front edge 4x6 can just screw into the side ledgers or do the have to rest on top of something?
this was the plan, but it really takes away from the live edge of the tree. so i thought there were some alternatives. i removed the front ledger today and it is plenty supported. but i wonder if it will sag at the front over time. its 2.125" thick so not sureNiNe O said:what about some more walnut to serve as a screen for the plumbing and a supports for the shelf?
thats an idea! didnt think of that.DannyT said:how about embedding a piece of steel angle into the bottom of the slab lengthwise.
