Sorry if this is the wrong forum, wasn't sure where else to post.
I am trying to mount some wire shelving in the laundry room, and it appears that two studs are 30" apart. Take a look at the picture of what I have so far

Is it possible that there's no stud in the middle?

My stud finder goes berserk on that wall for some reason, so I had to rely on measurements and just tapping the wall with my finger. I know that the 4 current upright are mounted into studs because I felt the screw go in. The middle one though, went right through the drywall, which is why you see two holes these now.

Now that you have those holes.
Use a wire coathanger as a probe, straighten it out, then insert in one of the holes, fish around to see which way to move to find the deceptive stud.

@de-nagorg, I tried that but the hanger didn't seem to be moving. So, i decided to start hammering some small nails through the drywall to see if they'd hit a stud. Turns out I was off by just 2 inches, and the hanger was probably hitting the stud.
