I have damaged walls in my kitchen and lined them with heavy duty wall liner. I followed the directions on the roll. All went up well. After the paste dried, I noticed a gap where I butted the paper together. I was told to leave it alone, when I paint the liner, it will expand from the paint and the space will disappear. I can't see how since the wall liner in solidly pasted to the wall. Can I spackle or use joint compound in the spaces?+

The instructions say nothing about what to do if the wall liner contracts when it drys. I was talking to a friend who told me to leave the spaces alone as the wall liner will expand when it absorbs the paint.
