I have installed wainscotting and chair rail and am having trouble finishing. I ended at an untrimmed doorway and am having trouble coming up with a way to end with a nice, finished look, particularly with the chair rail. Any suggestions?
You make a return at the end. This is like an outside corner, but you cut the return flush with the back of the front chair rail. For the wainscoting use a molding at the edge.
Might depend on the look you want and the type of chair rail. I have mitered some styles and turned the end down to the floor to cover the end of the wainscote. That left a narrow strip of drywall exposed as a sort of reveal. That's what the customer wanted.
