With WAGO selling its own paste for use with its connectors, I felt there was a chance that the connectors could be used with aluminum wire. Below is the response from a service representative.

"As the Manufacturer WAGO does not recommend Aluminum conductors for any of our Product."

"WAGO does Not have U.L. or any other Agency approvals for use with our Products and Aluminum Conductors. Copper Only".

The problem with aluminum wiring is that it expands and contracts at a high rate, which can lead to loose connections. Connections between aluminum and copper can also cause oxidation, resistance, heat, increased expansion… you get the picture. All of that can lead to a fire.
