I'm building a new work shop. I've decided to use LP smartside with Vinyl soffits, held with F Channel. What is the best way to meet the smartside to the soffits? Should I intall the F Channel on top of a trim board and then the caulk the LP siding where it meets the trim board? Or, can I just attach the F channel directly on top of the siding without using a trim board?

You could just use some molding that is mounted on top of the plank siding or rip down a piece of LP flat trim to create the ledge.

I don't care of a vinyl trim to me mounted on top of the LP if you can avoid it.

On the backside of the fascia, fine...but at the wall, I prefer something that is a bit more akin to the siding you are using.

Why use F channel at all?
J attached to the rafters and installed tight to the siding, a band of 1 X 4, PVC or wood for it to sit on or a product like this will work.

Thanks guys, that clears it up. I'll go with the J channel with some trim to dress it up.
