Any one ever install new vinyl over old directly without new underlayment or etc? I could probably remove old stuff quickly since it is partially loose anyways but just curious the positive and negative opinions? It is for a rental so I am looking for quickest and cheapest alternative...

Investing in a new floor over an existing compromised layer?
Do you think this is a smart move?

It's less than 11'x11 and the stuff I'm pricin out is $4/syd. Not a large investment but I would probably still remove flooring because it shouldn't take too long. Still, curious for future projects...

Done it many times. If it's felt backed, same adhesive, just less of it. Of course the pattern of the old vinyl will show through.
