very loudly noise from a American Standard Freedom 95 furnace

753 Views 10 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  LLAOADAM
There is large noise from the furnace, basically two types, one is sharp noise last for a short awhile and happened time by time, this I think from induce motor. another kind noise is not that sharp but very loudly and continued for a quite long time from the top somewhere, I'd guess it is from blower motor, but the top location annoyance me, need help please.

you can't attach that type of file, can use an external site and link.

Your inducer is failing.

The trane part is expensive.

Ya, it is expensive and short life. do I need check the blower? actually where is the blower located ?

Just turn the fan on or a/c and see if there are any bad noises. a/c is a better test, runs at a higher speed than continuous fan.

The main blower is in the lower compartment assuming the furnace is an upflow. The inducer is in the upper compartment.

The inducer should a long time, it should have to be replaced only once over the 20 +/- year life of the furnace.

Yes, that noise is characteristic of the high speed ball bearing faillure on inducer motors. I think yours is a variable speed 3 phase motor. I think the equivalent part is a Fasco A197. Verify it yourself before ordering. Link below may be helpful:

Fasco brand will be less $$.
Double check the wiring, they should match. If not, check the diagram on the Fasco.
Also be aware that electrical motors are non returnable - ask before you buy, so better take the old blower to a supply house for a better matching.

Thanks,
you are right, on cooling model, the noise is much less. I'll change the inducer later.
