Hello:

I am adding an exhasut fan to my second floor bathroom. I have acces to the attic and was wondering what the best option to vent the fan would be. I can exhaust it vertically through the roof which would be about 3 feet from the fan or I can exhaust it horizontally out the side of the house which would be a 12 foot run. What would be the best option?

I hesitate to exhasut out the roof jut for the leaking possibility...

thanks for any help!

Either case will work, but insulating the pipe might be easier through the roof. If you're putting it through an unheated space, the warm moisture laden air will condense in a cold environment if the pipe is left uninsulated

I'd be hesitant to put it thru the roof too. Run it horizontally with a slight pitch downward toward the outside. This will keep any condensation from running back inside thru the fan. Insulate as Ron said and you should be good. A 12 foot run with one elbow should not be a problem.
