I have a dilemma... I am finishing my basement bathroom and my vanity top and vanity do not seem to fit.... I purchased them from home cheapo....

Is the vanity supposed to fit inside the top or will it be ok....

My guess is it will sag in the middle over time. You should add support under the back or rout out so it sits solid on all four sides.

rout the cabinent or the top? If the top what type of bit?

I would take it back to home depot and have them rout it or get a top that fits. You start messing with it you will void any warranty.

Ditto Al's Sewer - HD typically sells several sizes for the same price or a few bucks more for a larger size... if your dimensions allow, I'd get the larger size so it sits flush.. I did that with their Midnight black granite counter/sink combo.. paired it with an existing vanity, but had an overhang of 1.5" on either side, but rather have it resting flush.

I took the top back and exchanged for a solid granite...:thumbsup:
