Hi,
Without getting into a debate as to "Why would I"..Are there any professional roofers that can tell me:When flashing a valley using Ice & water membrane AND aluminum flashing.....
What goes on FIRST?.....The ice & water then the flashing.....OR the flashing then the ice and water??
I've searched and have found a 50-50 split (practically) on which one gets applied first.
I'm guessing ice & water shield...then aluminum flashing.(Just guessing:wink:)
Also...do you nail through the flashing or just catch the edge of the flashing with the head of the nail....allowing movement / expansion, etc.
Thanks for any input from those in-the-know.
Thanks!

Just think about the properties of the products and go from there. So, ice and water is meant to stick to the base surface, adheres strongly, and seals after nails are driven through. Aluminum or copper flashing does not adhere, does not seal, and is meant to be protection to layers that deteriorate quickly when hit with UV light or are relatively easily damaged.

So, ice and water, flashing, shingles. The ice and water will seal all nail holes that go through it. And i nail the flashing...all well S drip edge, etc. just don't blow it in too tightly. Ron
