The Mudder Dudes will be done on my new house by next Friday.
Checked out cost for primer. They have their medium priced PVA which they recommend for bare drywall and they have High Hide which is the most expensive. My budget could handle either, but curious if the PVA is good enough and will cover OK in a decent time.

For paint they have Emerald, Duration, Opulence, and Harmony. I won't mention the paint and primer jobbies.
Any preferences?

For doors and trim, they have Pro Classic and also an exterior one I didn't get the name of. Store Dude says the exterior one could be used indoors and is probably tougher than the interior Pro Classic.
Opinions?

Only one ceiling paint Eminence. OK stuff? Cover well?

If you have good "mudders" you won't need the high build primer. PVA is ok, but SW does have a middle of the road primer that's pretty good and quite a step up from the PVA. Also, consider Zinsser's 123 primer for your walls. About $20 per gallon at Lowe's or Home Depot.

Duration and Emerald are way overpriced for what you get. Really good paint but not special enough to be priced at $70 per gallon retail. My favorite SW wall paint is Cashmere Low-lustre. Goes on buttery smooth and leaves the wall with a nice smooth finish. If you can't get Cashmere, SuperPaint is good stuff but leaves the wall a little rough in my opinion.

ProClassic for trim is great, just a bit tricky to use. They are probably speaking of All-Surface Enamel which can be used inside or outside. I don't know that I would use it over PC for interior trim.

Before the Benjamin Moore vs Sherwin Williams feud starts up again. I will say I'd have to drive three times as far at least to find a BM dealer and I don't live in the boonies. Before the BM lover chimes in that it's worth the drive, why is that BM has so few dealers if it's so good?

Is SW the ONLY paint store you can use?
Pretty much.
I have an account and get a decent discount.
The high hide I can get for 17 and change a gallon if I buy 5 gallon pails.
The PVA which is their middle one, I can get just under 14 bucks a gallon when buying bulk pails.

I sure as heck won't be buying Behr from HD. :vs_no_no_no:

So all I want to do on this thread is concentrate on which SW paint is best. Good coverage is probably most important. I don't want to spend the rest of my life painting.

Ha, nothing like feeding the fire to start the feud. :wink2:
That's all I have to say about that.

BM lovers can chime in all they want but I won't listen anyways.
SW is 5 minutes from home and I drive by it on my way home from work.
I know they have some good products, so that's what I'll use.

Not sure, some companies will only sell their paints through a vedor that can sell a lot of gallons.
BM lost me when they started that paint and primer in one.
SW has Super Paint and Ovation which are both paint and primer in one. Won't be touching either of them.

Thanks.

PVA is a great price for me if it's fine for new rock.

What's the tricky part of the Pro Classic?

ProClassic is a quick drying waterborne paint that has levelers in it to create that glass-like finish that most people want on their woodwork. Those levelers can cause problems with sagging and runs if you put it on to heavy. Thin coats works best. Once you put it on, you have to leave it alone. Not a lot of back brushing can be done as it dries so fast that you will have lap marks.

That is the thing, the smell. Wife will not let me paint in the house anymore because she claims it smells for a month. To be honest I do not like the way new paint smells. Was turned off to BM because a room i painted smelled really bad for like three months. They sell this stuff called kabosh, supposed to stop the smell.

Which only means that it is good enough quality to be able to self prime MOST surfaces without using a separate primer(read the small print on the label)
