Has anyone ever used old chalkboard (blackboards) as a table top? We saw it used in a local restaurant and it looks very nice. We found an old piece of chalkboard and want to use it for a built in desk top in our kitchen remodel project, but we are not sure how it will hold up. Any thoughts appreciated.

It will hold up great!
Old chalkboards are actually made of high quality slate stone. It has been used for years and years to make work tops for laboratories in schools and science and used for a base on billiard tables. Not to worry about it.:)

Be sure to have adequate bracing or framing under it including bracing out to the edges. An unsupported edge or corner more than a few inches is very likely to crack off if you put a heavy weight on it.
