Finally getting to renovating our 100 plus yr old log house , doing the upstairs first. Across the house runs 6 by 4 beams that the boards for the floor lay on, I would like to rip these up as the floor is slanted and i would like to level it somewhat. My question is can i use just 3/4 inch plywood for the new floor the spacing of the beams is 42 inch centres or will it not be strong enough.Thnx

Can you see the floors from below?
Often times in log homes 1-1/2 X 6 T X G is used.
It would be to wide a span for 3/4".
Take a look at http://www.diychatroom.com/f49/german-house-rebuild-23424/ He rebuilt from pretty much the ground up a old German stone home. He gives some nice tricks. As for your situation, you need to find out if the slant is caused by shrinkage, pest destruction, or foundation issues.

The first thing is to find out how much out of level the house actually is.

Older homes such as this age, they would have just laid rough sawed planks down, unless someone came along later and tore them out, and replaced.
Yes it is T&G board upstairs but was wanting to remove them so i could level the floor a little better
the ceilings are very low in the upstairs so i was hoping to lay a single layer floor instead of building on top of the T&G board, any suggestions?>

First you have to figure out why it's not level.
not sure why the floor is unlevel like it is i beleive it is just from how the house settled over the years just wondering what i could use for a new floor with that kind of joist span
Find a yard that does reclaimed barn wood, or wood out of structures, so you still have that weathered look on one side, but planed on the floor side. As for getting it level, you are best to get the structure level, not try to bandaid the problem.
