I've got my main water supply, galvanized 3/4in, that has a large bonding wire clamped to it. It runs across the unfinished basement, and ties into the electrical panel.

I'm planning on replacing my old galvanized plumbing with PEX. I understand my main panel needs both a ground rod, which is present. It's tied in via a solid copper wire, and close to the actual panel.

I was thinking of tying PEX in right after the main shutoff valve, as it's on a 3/4 galv pipe that comes up right out of the concrete slab - but the bonding wire is clamped at the ceiling.

Should I:
1. extend the bonding wire
2. tie PEX in after the 90deg at the ceiling, and leave bonding in place

My electrical panel bonding and grounding looks boned up too. That should be a separate post!

Typically the grounding electrode conductor is attached to the street side of the main valve as close to the wall as possible. This is done so if the piping system is disturbed the grounding remains intact. Also bond around water meter.
