I want to upgrade my existing sub-panel on the outside of my house which is for the pool pump (220 volts) and an underwater light. According to what I read, the amps on the sub-panel must be equal to or less than the amps on the main panel. How do I figure this out? I attached a pic of the existing sub-panel and circuit breaker which shows 10 kA 120/240.

My goal is to have a sub-panel with spaces for the existing pool pump and light and additional spaces for when I’m ready to add 1 or 2 motion detector lights and a security camera. I attached a few pic's to display the existing setup.

Thank you,
Jim

That panel has space for another 120 volt circuit. What size breaker is feeding that panel? What are the amps required for the pump?

I took a pic of the visible part of the circuit breaker on the main panel which is between the telephone pole and my house. I see the words “SINGLE 200 HANDLE”.

The pic on the pool pump appears to read “Max Load Amps……..15.3/7.6

A subpanel should have four conductors feeding into it. I only see three in yours.

That existing panel may be rated for twin circuit breakers. In that case you can have two circuits on one circuit breaker slot.
