Unincorporated Des Plaines, IL - Chicago code?

I bought a TH in unincorporated Des Plaines, and I'm not sure if I'm bound by Chicago electrical code? If not do I just follow NEC and be ok? My main project right now is running can lights in the living room where there is drywall (sections ripped out currently) on the ceiling, and basement (bare joists).

Call Cook county or go to their site and see what codes they use---

my understanding is that cRook co and chicago are the same, code wise. i used to live in cRook co.
