We just had our basement walls installed with Blueboard and plaster veneer. I wanted to install a tile on the bathroom wall, but there seems to be no consensus regarding whether it's okay to tile over or not.

Can anybody provide guidance?

On the bathroom wall? Do you mean a tub or shower area? If so you need a waterproof membrane over the plaster.

I would use Redguard membrane around the fixture.
That's what I was thinking. Coat the surface that you're going to put tile on with Red Gard or Aqua-Defense liquid membrane.

I'd scuff the that area up with some 60-80 grit sandpaper> Wipe clean with a damp cloth > Apply two coats of the liquid membrane> Install tile.
