I'm digging a trench for 1/2" pex and a branch circuit from my house to a shed about 15' away. The pex will be for an outdoor potting sink and the circuit is for general purpose receptacles, (GFI of course), and some lighting.

Can these things go into the same trench? And how deep? The conductors will be in PVC and eventually have a flagstone path over them.

The electric can be installed at 18", but the water depends on your frost line.

Yes, you can share the trench. What are you using, conduit or UF?

I am thinking about replacing my water line too. I was told PEX was the best. Opinion? Thanks

I have been hearing that pex is the best for a few years now from people I trust. In particular wersbo aquapex brand. If you want to connect this stuff with a press fit connector such as sharkbite, it's kind of a no brainer but not cheap.

As to the electrical conduit I was plannig on using that light gray stuff, I think it's PVC. I was going to go directly into the ground off of a surface mount outside GFCI 20 amp recepticale.

One more thing, rather than drill through my 8" concrete foundation, I'm planning to tap off a hose bib with a 1/2" galvanized T and start the pex underground.

This is for summer use only and will have a shut off valve in the house. Sound OK?

A 20a circuit can be direct buried - UF cable, at 12" if it is GFCI protected BEFORE the wire enteres the trench

For water to my pool area (non-drinking) I am digging & burying PVC pipe. I'll thread a hose thru when needed, pull it out for the winter. The only reason I am burying it is so it won't be visible & no-one will trip over it
I need the hose to top off the pool

Yes, it's PVC. Good choice. Water tap sounds fine to me. With shutoff for winter. :thumbsup:

This is semi-related...I am planning to install a sprinkler system for my lawn. I know i have to drill through the foundation to get the water pipe out.

I also need to get the low-voltage wiring out there to the from the timer to the valve box (located right next to the house). Should I use the same hole as the water pipe, just make it extra big?

Or is it better to run the electrical wiring through conduit in a separate hole through the concrete? Thanks.

Run them together if it makes the job easier. You will not have to make the trench bigger. If the cable is rated for direct burial, I see no reason to put it in conduit. You can if you like. Not required.
