Hey guys and gals

I have a question for you more experienced folks. I recently purchased a home with a illegal garage conversion, which im removing to get back the garage being as they simply drywalled in front of the garage door.

The house in block construction on a concrete slab. My question pertains to the floor. I already removed the tile with my jack hammer. But it left all of the mortar residue not to mention i gouged up the floor really good in some places. I know i can jack hammer it smooth but thats gonna take some time. I dont want to use floor leveler due to the fact that it is too much money.

Can i just clean it up really good and pour a say 1 inch slab of new concrete over the whole garage floor. Or would it just be easier to use a mixture of portland cement and sand to skim the whole garage floor?

Its a single car garage about 240 sq ft and the only use will be to park my 70 camaro on top. Thanks in advance

I am not a concrete expert, but I doubt the 1" layer will survive for long, even with a bonding agent. Leveling compound would be my choice, and you don't have to add 1", unless that is how deep the dings are. Another alternative is to grind down the peaks, rather that fill the valleys.

Why in the world did you take out the tile? It would have made a great "showroom" floor for that Camaro.

So my suggestion is to lay new tile. LOL
