Well. I've learned that tyvec house wrap should always be used, Now what I'm wondering is,is Tyvec the name brand house wrap the best option? Ive read on the web, its woven opposed to perforated.....?

i think alot depends on what kind of siding your doing and how its being applied,ive seen every thing from rosin paper to tyvek and ive come to belive its all in the details on how the wrap is applied is more important than the material itself

The woven tyvek is what you are looking for. Others are for commercial applications where it may be left exposed longer. Also if using stucco or stone or brick a different wrap altogether is used in addition to the house wrap. The house wraps for used as a weather barrier to prevent wind driven moisture to enter the building envelope. But this will only work if careful attention to the installation details are followed. Especially around the windows.

The tyvec in my situation would be used behind horizontal steel dutch lap house siding.And hope for the best I guess as far as the window flashing goes. I would love the imput about tyvec vs any other plastic type house wrap (off brand that is) Thanks

Like someone else mentioned, the installation quality is far more important than the brand - properly taped joints, returns at windows and doors, etc.

When I resided my house I went to Carter Lumber for tyvek, and the girl got me with "carter wrap is half the price and just as good..." so I went with it.

Went all summer with it exposed, it held up fine. it's heavy woven plastic fibers, damn strong. As long as it don't fall apart in there over the years, I don't see how anything could do any better of a job?

Nothing was there to begin with so no matter what it's better than it was
