Two relief valves on hot water heater?

Seems like I have two relief valves on my hot water heater. One top center, and another on the hot water side. Is the second, hot water side necessary?


Going to be replacing with PEX soon, and need to get parts correct.

Can you take a clearer photo of the one near the ceiling please?

Yup, looks like it was installed for an old piece of equipment prior to your current water heater.
