when turning off a hot water heater for an extended period of time, say six months, can you leave it full or should it be drained.

leave it full then you don't have to remember to refill it before you turn the power back on.

We do both leave it full and empty during cold months.
I turn the breaker at the panel off and the disconect at the heater. I use a peice of wrie to to lock the disconnect with a tag reminding to fill and purge the air out of the tank!:thumbup:

No unless there is a rust problem.

Ayuh,... At my river house, I flip the breaker, 'n drain it 'bout October,...

Usually by May it's refill, 'n repower it time...
