I am replacing my tub with a shower stall and going with Koeller product fibeglass pan. The existing plumbing has the overflow for the tub. Should I cut the overflow and cap this section? Also I heard I should replace the drain with a 2 inch drain where would I cut the existing plumbing to do this? Thank you for the advice.

Yes you will need a 2" drain for a shower.

Open up the piping and see where the 2 inch starts----it might be right there---or it might not exist at all----it is possible the line will need to be replaced over to the nearest larger drain pipe.

Dig out the area around the existing drain and see what you have---

definitely change the drain to 2 inch. you may have to go over near the toilet and cut into the 3 or 4 inch line there to run a 2 inch line for the shower. if you leave the 1-1/2 you will be kicking yourself down the road when you have problems with it.

Go to 2 inch, the trap may already be in 2 inch if so your good to go, but you cant off set the trap you'll need to relocate it to the new drain area.

Hopefully your drain is on the right end and not center, even then chances are it won't line up exact without some rework.

Yes you will want to open things up some and install a two to the three or whatever is there with a combination fitting or a Y and an 1/8 bend. You will need a vent for which I would also use a combination fitting. It appears that you are starting to get some dry rot in your sole plates which appear to be untreated fir. You will want pressure treated lumber there if you can do it, although it would be difficult and labor intensive at this point. Maybe theres a vapor barrier under there. The good news is that your floor is not too thick, and should be easy to break out. (If you could call that good news) I dont see any clean stone though, which is kind of standard under a slab. Im sure you know this, but shoveling the dirt out and undermining the slab will make removal with a sledge hammer much easier.
