I have an old tub and I've tried to remove the drain cover but it won't budge. I removed the screw and I have a pair of thin needle nose pliers that I could get into the grate but it won't turn. The thin plier nose inserted into the grate is so little that I think I may crack it if I use too much force. I've abandoned the project for now but I may resume it later on. Does anyone have any recommendations for how to get it off?

Here's a picture of it:

the disk is stuck with lime and corrosion--

spray with penetrating oil--tap very gently--spray again--

A lime solvent would probably work but might damage the plating.

I would used CLR on it a couple of times to reduce the amount of buildup. If you have a round screwdriver with the same thickness as the holes I would insert it into one of the holes and use a hammer on the handle of screwdriver, its just an idea though. Make sure your turning it the right way also.
