Hello -

Before I start, I want to say I'm trying to make this right, so please consider that before making any comments on how poor this was done. I wouldn't be asking for advice if I didn't care enough to correct the issue in the first place.

That being said, a while back I decided to add recessed lighting in our 1st floor office. I'm generally pretty handy and know a lot of basic codes (mostly from doing a lot of electrical reading on here and other forums over the years), but when doing this project I ran into an issue fishing wire.

I ran a total of 6 boxes, each secured to old-work light boxes and daisy-chained together. My last box was supposed to run down to the wall through the top plate and into an existing gang box which had a switch and incoming power.

When I fed the wire through the first joist and down the adjacent joist cavity, I ran into an issue of a double-wide engineered joist sitting on the wall top plate that I had planned run the wire down.

Not knowing what to do and in a pinch because of the holidays, I temporarily fed that portion of romex through 3' of armored cable and cut the corner behind the exiting crown molding.

Now that I have a little extra time i'd like to take it back apart and try to wire this correctly - however running down the top plate appears to be out of the picture and i'm not sure how to proceed.

I did a lot of reading and it appears armored cable is not suitable for behind crown and i'm looking for additional options.

Only way I know of or have seen done if cut out the sheetrock on the ceiling and the wall so you can drill the holes and feed the wire.
Most often it's just a 6" X 6" square.
