I thought changing a light switch would be as easy as disconnecting the old switch and connecting the new one with the same configuration. There were three black wires connected to the old switch, one of which was hot. The white wires were tied together with a wire nut in the box.
With the new switch in place it now seems to control every outlet and switch in the room. What did I do wrong?
The connection with two wires has the wrong two. Take one of them and put it with the single one. If the switch controls the receptacles instead of the fixture you got the wrong one. Swap it with the other one.
