I am trying to route some wiring in my basement to two new receptacle boxes that are mounted in a wall directly under the main beam in the ceiling. There are two 4” metal support pillars blocking me from running wire from the side through the studs. So essentially, these receptacle boxes are blocked in by the main beam on top, and the metal pillars on either side.

My question is, how do I legally get wire to these receptacle boxes?

If you think the ROMEX needs to be protected from the wall up the side of the beam into the joists use surface mount raceway or conduit. Run the romex out of the boxes up to the to plate. Then come out one side of the wall in conduit, use a 90 to turn straight up with conduit into the joist bay. Make sure you use bushings to protect the romex from the conduit.

You could use plastic surface mount raceway for appearance if it doesn’t need to be protected from physical damage.

Thank you. I was considering something like this, since it was done in other places in the basement when the house was originally built.
