Hello - this post may over lap some previous ones slightly, but I could not find what I was looking for in any of the posts I searched - I do apologize if I missed something.

Now that the disclaimer is over...

I have 'finished' installing my Aprilaire 700 (auto) humidifier into my Trane XE90 furnace. Everything seems to be correct per the installation instructions. The humidistat turns on and I am able to 'test' the system as instructed but the solenoid valve does not 'click on' in the test phase as the manual says it should. I have gone back over eveything - tested voltage, etc. I am getting the 24VAC from the transformer when touching both terminals, but the instructions say to wire only to the 24VAC side of the transformer... should anything be hooked up to the 10VAC side? Any ideas what I am missing to power my solenoid valve properly??

Did you test the wires at the solenoid to see if it is getting voltage when in "test"? If yes, then the solenoid is bad (doubtful) and if no some wires are connected wrong or are loose.

What is that a multitap transformer? 10VAC? Never heard of that and I'm not a newbie

I checked the wires at the solenoid, no reading. Th transformer has a 24VAC hub and a 10VAC hub (printed directly on it). The installation instructions state to: "connect the 24 volt side of the transformer to one of the H terminals on the hum control and to one of the solenoid valve wires. Connect the other solenoid wire to the other H terminal."

See attached pictures. The first shows the two terminals one on left is stamped 10VAC one on right is stamped 24VAC. I have both wires connected to the 24VAC side as the instructions read (or at least how I interpret them)! Second is just model info on the transformer.

He doesn't have common connected. There is no 10vac terminal just 24. Looks like both leads are attached to one terminal via wire nut

Thats a 24 volt only transformer. You have it wired wrong.

Are you sure your not reading the 10 watt rating.

PS, you generally install the transformer that it is outside the box, but its line voltage connections are inside the box.

Yes, that is the diagram I used. I actually thought about it for a minute and realized the only way I got a reading on my meter was when I touched the leads to both sides of the transformer (labeled 10 and 24 VAC). I switched the wiring so one wire is wired to each side... What do ya know... apparently I was reading it too literally... it is now working!

Thanks for the help! Hopefully I don't need more and it is operating as it should as far as blower activation next time it turns on!!

Just realized that! I knew something wasn't right. Thanks for the info on the transformer mounting... So that's OK to be out in the open or does it need to be inside the furnace cabinet then?
