Have a trex Decking with this white film on it. It’s a trex capped composite.

Tried professional softwashing, CLR, Deckmax, And TSP. I can scratch the surface with my fingernail and it comes up but none of these chemicals restore or remove.

I have a saltwater pool, this gradually got worse in the last 2 years.

Any deck pros?

I have seen an old Trex deck - I was shaking my head: it really turned into dust.
The owner asked me to paint it, I told him what I thought, but asked me to paint anyway.
Just a question: how do you have a salt water pool in PA?

Decking with White deposits all over it.

Salt Water pool nearby.

Hmm, I'll take a wild guess. :devil3:

This is obviously mineral deposits. Salt specifically.

The best that you can do is wash it weekly, and maybe daily.

If memory serves me, Trex recommends that we keep salts off the decking.

I have a Trex deck installed myself in the 90's, And it still looks great, maybe a little sun faded, but everything fades here in the mile high atmosphere, The UV here is higher than those in the lowland SMOG covered climates.

If you can scrape it off with a fingernail a good floor scrubbing machine should take off that film. Your local rental store should have something you can use.

Note, I worked one summer in HS for a commercial floor cleaning company running those big buffer/scrubbers and they are really easy to handle once you get them going.

Here's what I would do . Before doing anything get with Trex and see what they have to say . If they have no useful tips then I would try this . Go to paint store and get a small can of Flood Penetrol . It is a paint additive . Pick two of the worst boards and apply by brush . Left alone it dries to a clear film . I use this on ALL black plastic stuff on the exterior of cars like bumper rubber/side moldings/mirror housings . It works so much better than products like back to black .

It can also be used on boat gelcoat to snap it back . It won't cure everything but worth a shot . In your case paint is the last thing I would use , only because once you paint you are over the falls and have to keep repainting to keep up . If you try the Penetrol and like it I would apply to all of the deck surface with a lambs wool applicator like you would for applying stain .

PSA: I have no clue how slippery this surface might be so be careful walking on the wet deck after the application has dried . Also it may have to be applied once or twice a year it depends on sun exposure and foot traffic . Good luck
