Hi everyone,

Looking for suggestions on what martial to use for cutting treads for a 3 step winder.

The top stair treads (7 steps leading to the winder) will be 1" red oak.

Unfortunately - probably due to my lack of experience - I haven't been able to find any lumber of the necessary dimensions that I can cut to size.

The winder tread dimensions will each be approximately 2 feet deep on the long edge, and are 48", 55" 42" wide.

What material would you suggest I use for winder treads?

Thanks,
Jon

Anyone in your shoes would glue available stocks together to make bigger board. First make a cardboard template and glue pieces that fit with room to spare for cutting. Saves some money. Glued board would need more support.

You can clamp the boards then use some cleats underneath as well, as long as cleats don't get in the way along other stairs parts.

Must use same tree and best if same stock as other treads.
