I am planning a 160sqft installaltion of Honed Travertince over Slab (previously existed carpet), with 1/8" grout lines. Is it neccessary to seal the concrete before? Also I have been told various thinset/mud approaches for the installation. Wanted to hear any suggestions for the preferred method.

I am hoping that a reinforced thinset applied with a 1/2" notched trowel will be sufficient.

There is also various comments about sealing the tiles prior to installing ( I am assuming to make cleanup easier)

Hey Hardwood, "overkill if he seals the concrete?", the man wants to install travertine tile, you don't seal the substrate when installing ceramic or stone tiles....ever.

What specific brand and type of thinset were you going to use?

BTW, everyone should give their name in the post.
