A year ago I moved into my first house which has a GE trash compactor built into the kitchen cabinets and after about 7 months of regular weekly activation/use it has stopped working. When we turn the dial to compact the trash it starts making a loud continuous chug-chug-chug sound until I turn the dial back to the off setting. Has anyone experienced this and knows how to fix it? (aside from obviously calling an appliance repairman. Any help is appreciated, thank you.

maybe broken belt, take off the back panel to see

Ok guys I took apart the compactor and so far it seems like the the long screws that spin in the sides are not catching the two plastic nuts as mentioned previously. To double check i tilted it on its side and checked the chain/belt in the bottom and that is well greased and intact.
