Transition help for click and lock wood flooring.

849 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  joecaption
I am replacing carpet in the loft of my A-frame with click and lock wood flooring. The loft is bordered by oak railing on two sides which then travels down the stairs to the great room. The bottom plate of the railing is what has me baffled right now. If I leave a 3/4" space for expansion I have a visible gap that needs covered somehow. Even if I run the wood right up to the bottom plate, I expect that at some point the flooring will contract and open up a an unsightly gap.

I have attached a pdf of pictures to help visualize my dilemma.

Thank you for taking the time to help.

undercut the bottom plate or install shoe molding, to cover the expansion gap.
