I have a Toro Model 20382 self-propelled mower. Is there an adjustment that will allow the mower to push easier? The manual calls out an adjustment “Adjusting the Self-Propel Drive.” It is to increase or decrease the mower’s traction?

If I were to increase the traction, would that allow the mower to push easier? Or, is there another adjustment I could use?

It all depends on the belt tightness and condition. I replace mine every couple of years

Come to think of it, my mower seems to have a weak drive. Its 13 years old. Think its time to replace the drive belt ?

Actually, I just took a look. Yep, its time.

My mower is new (2 weeks old). So, I was wondering if I were to increase the traction, would that allow the mower to push easier? Or, is there another adjustment I could use?

Something isn't right, if it's self propelled you should not have to push at all, just controlling the machine is all you should need to do. There are usually adjustments that can be made.

I recently replaced the drive wheels on my Toro Recycler II Pro due to tire wear, the tires were worn down to the plastic. I found that the wheel bearing were shot and the inner races were turning on the axle bolt. Replacing the wheels made the mower much easier to push which is helpful for backing up.

A lot of the newer mowers have plastic gears that mesh with another plastic gear inside the drive wheels and the plastic cogs wear out sooner than I would prefer. Fortunately they sell replacement wheels for that.

I had a problem where I gradually lost traction on the drive wheels. I changed the drive belt which didn't help, and looked all over the Internet to see how to adjust it. I was about to either get a new mower or send it to the shop.
Then I saw the instructions in the Owners Manual. Took about 5 minutes and now works like a champ.
