Alot of the HVAC flex duct in my house is torn on the inside. There are small tears and the insulation inside is exposed. We have inspected them and there are not tears on the outside. It must have been rodents or just degraded since they're fairly old.

We replaced the worst one in my two year olds room this summer but money didn't permit the rest. I was told by some HVAC people it wasn't a health problem but some have said that the fiberglass is in my system blowing around. I assume into the air and blowing fibers in.

I'm slightly paranoid and angry that I let it go this long. My better half thinks its not a major deal, claiming the insulation in the ducts isn't the super bad kind.

I am wondering if I should get on this pronto and the likelihood we could all end up with mesothelioma in ten years? Or, if we could replace one at a time as money allows.

I was being extreme as I presume fiberglass is just as bad as asbestos only no one wants to admit it.

I can only see you top under the vents. I'm hoping they're not torn all the way thru and the rodents didn't go on an adventure but no way to know.

I did put some foil tape over the holes in the worst ones yesterday but I'm not sure that's a fix.
