It seems most of my stop valves for my toilets and sinks do not fully shut off the water. I need to fix one of my toilets so I picked up a quarter turn valve to go ahead and replace the valve. I went ahead and also picked up a cheap pack of flat rubber washers for the Bibb screw.

The current valves are FIP inlet, I think they used some sort of nipple with a threaded end for the water lines. Well I picked up a Standard 1/2" FIP valve. When I tried to screw it on I found that the valve size was to big. The threaded pipe is smaller than 1/2". Luckily the flat washers I got were the right size and I was able to repair the existing valve.

With the valve working now I don't need to replace it, but if I ever wanted to replace it with a quarter turn, does know where to get valves that are not 1/2" inlet, that's all I can find.

Ayuh,.... It's probably 3/8" pipe,... possibly 1/4" pipe,....

Depending on what kind of pipe you have, any local big box or plumbing supply store should have the appropriate adapter you need to make it work.

3/8 "was commonly used in older homes.

Agreed, 3/8 for the toilet not at all uncommon.

Seemed hard to find 3/8 online. Homedepot didn't have any but I looked when walking around lowes and they have some.
