We have replaced the flapper and used CLR(which oddly works for about 3 flushes) then goes back to before. You flush it. The water comes out of the spouts in the toilet and the tank drains. The toilet starts to flush then just kind of swirls. After four or five flushes it actually flushes. Or if you dump a bucket of water in the bowl, it flushes. Any thoughts?

When we dump a bucket of water in it flushes fine. That's the weird part. And when we put CLR in the tank...it flushes fine for about 3-4 flushes. We have snaked a wire down the flush hole...what else would we use to try and clear any blockage?

More fibre in your diet? :biggrin2: Sorry - couldn't resist.

If it truly is a blockage, maybe an old-fashioned plunger might help. Other thing to check: make sure the tank is filling every time; make sure the holes under the rim are not plugged. It's just as much about how much water is used per flush as it is about the force it is released.

Lol....Trust me, I've plunged the heck out of it. And the tank levels are good, the force of the water coming out does increase with the CLR added to the tank. We ran a wire up the spouts and they seem clear.

You flush 3 or 4 times then it poops out (pun intended). If the water action seems to be the same each time, I'm wondering if you have some sort or venting problem and you're getting a vacuum lock that builds up over a series of consecutive flushes. A real plumber might come along and have some more educated thoughts.

I have a thought and past experience with a similar.

Get a toilet snake and use that to clear out a blockage.

I once found a rat-tail comb in one that had these symptoms.
The comb had gotten in with the pointed end first, would not go either way, until trapped in the snake coils, then it pulled out the bowl side.
