Hello,
I have a Kholer Cimarron toilet, new, low flow, etc..
when flushing, sometimes (not always), water splashes up from the bowl (looks like coming directly from the main waste area).
Flush, sounds like a bubble , then the splash.

This is vented properly, I know the waste pipe under the toilet is not an "elbow"... the contractor had a 90 degree bend in the pvc waste pipe, cause it goes through an uninsulated open crawl space (under a porch).. meaning, he didn't want any standing water in what would have been the elbow.
said the toilet itself, would act as the sewer gas buffer.

Any idea why only sometimes the water splashes back?

Have the same toilet in another bathroom with no problems.

Did you try the bucket test? Quickly dump a bucket of water (at least a few gallons) in bowl and see how it drains. Should go right down if vented/plumbed correctly and drain is not clogged. Just a suggestion.

Contractor is correct the toilet itself will act as a sewer gas buffer. Being how it only does it once in awhile, could be the way that the contractor plumbed it with that hard 90 degree elbow. Idk.

A 90 and an elbow are the same thing, you are thinking a trap. ok some questions.. do you have a septic system or public sewers? the toilet with no splashing, is it on the second floor? and even though you have the same toilet in both bathrooms, doesnt mean there isnt something internally wrong in the toilet ( when they casted the clay) but since this doesnt happen all the time either something make be in the drain area of the toilet or when water is drained elsewhere in the house it may be affecting the flush on this one..

Check and make sure your water level in the tank is correct first.
