One of our toilets short-flushes. That is, unless you hold the handle down (and thus the flapper up) for an extra couple of seconds, the flapper closes too soon and doesn't release the entire tank of water, instead of floating down with the water level. I've adjusted the pull chain so that there's only a little bit of slack at rest. No joy. Time for a new flapper, or what else can I try? TIA!

The rate of flow is what holds the crapper flapper up for for a specified length of time and possibly those little holes have partially plugged over the past 20 years from mineral deposits.
I don't think that's the problem. If you hold the lever down longer, the flapper stays up longer. The water comes out at a respectable rate no matter how long you hold the lever down, it's just that it comes out for a shorter period.

$5 red Korky flapper did the trick. Old one was a black Korky, probably many years old. While I was at it I replaced the old flush valve with the big ball float, with a Korky QuietFill valve. Big improvement.
