Hi,

I have a toilet that won't stop running. It has what appears to be a Mansfield Flush Valve and a Plumb Works Adjustable Anti-Siphon Ballcock, at least those are the parts at the hardware store that seem to be replacements for what I have.

I have replaced the red gasket on the mansfield flush valve as well as the black gasket on the ballcock. There is also a black gasket on the flush valve. I wasn't able to replace this gasket. I couldn't get the toilet tank off of the toilet. I had initially intended to replace the entire flush valve, but I decided to just replace the red gasket, the flush valve seat kit this part:

The toilet continues to run. After a couple minutes, the ball float will dip as the water level dips, and it will fill again.

The water level never rises above the top of the flush valve.

Any ideas?

Replace the entire flush valve. Turn the water off soak up all that is in the tank cut the tank bolts off buy new ones. While your at it replace the fill valve. Buy Genuine Mansfield parts and make sure you do not install a 1.6 gallon flush valve on a 3 gallon flush toilet.

Can I use a dremel for cutting the bolts? I will have to cut them right up at the base of the toilet through the nuts.

Just use a mini hack easy to cut 100% brass.

I have been reading about this some more, and the gasket that was originally on my toilet wasn't red, it was grey. I think it was a bit larger. I am wondering if I have a mansfield 208/209 or a 210/211.

I am pretty sure I was able to fix it. When I first started it seems that the gasket, which may have been red at some point, was damaged. I replaced it, but didn't seat it correctly. There are 2 rings and the gasket should fit into the top one. I was able to see what I did wrong looking at the part I purchased but didn't install.

Good way to test it is some food dye. Dump it into the tank go watch tv. None should be in the bowel after the show.

So the obvious problem was fixed, but I did fail this test. How bad is that?

I'm assuming I'd have to replace my whole mansfield flush valve, which would mean cutting the bolts for the tank.

That means it is still leaking.
