I'm remodeling two bathrooms. Both had vinyl floors, which have been removed down to the concrete. I plan to replace both toilets, as well.

Should I remove the toilets, tile and then replace the toilets? or

Replace the toilets and then lay the new tile? In other words, should toilets be installed ON TOP OF the new tile???

Help, please!!

The plumber should be able to deal with either situation.

Would the plumber who's going to install the new toilet agree with you?? Or will he say the wax seal may be compromised by laying the toilet on tile instead of concrete?
This is a DIY forum, so someone has to say it... replacing a toilet is very much so a DIY job! Sure, scraping the old wax ring is kind of gross, but it's not rocket surgery. Just be sure to buy a couple of wax rings because you're going to mess up the first time setting the bowl down. If you don't, return the extra one. They're only like $3.

If your closet flange is slightly below the tile, buy a reinforced wax ring, as was mentioned. Even go with an extension ring - the plastic sticks down a little farther.
