Hello everyone,

I'm currently renovating a basement bathroom, and recently had the toilet and sink roughed in. I've since pour new cement and now notice that the toilet flange does not sit level. It sits level from side to side, however the front is approximately 1/4 inch higher than the back. The toilet mounting ring is 1/4 inch thick and sits on top of the cement. The floor I'll be installing will measure about 1/2 an inch by the time it's done with underlay etc.

I'm looking to know if the flange will cause me any problems. I figure my options are to cut it out and replace it with an inside fitting flange. If I do this I believe the toilet mounting ring should sit above the finished floor. Is that correct or should it sit flush with the finished floor?

If I can leave the flange, is there something I should be doing when installing the toilet? I've heard of people using two wax rings to ensure a proper seal and thought about doing this since the mounting ring will be slightly below the finished floor.

The flange should have been on top of the finished floor from the beginning.

As it is now, a wax ring should take up the space you're talking about when you install the toilet....if one wont, 2 will.

One small note. Since the flange is above the floor surface, you need to do a test fit without the wax ring and be sure that the toilet bottom does not touch the flange at all. Otherwise minor stresses and settling could crack the toilet. Use shims all the way around the toilet if needed.
