We are preparing for some new flooring to be installed in our kitchen. I pulled our old, dented toe kick register off and it had already been cut (crudely) by the original installer and squeezed into the space. In fact, I can feel that wood was cut out from under the cabinet to get it in there. It is a 2 x 12 register, which is the smallest size I've been able to find.

Any recommendations for a shorter register? Are they available? If not, any thoughts on making a custom one? After the new floor is installed, I will only have about 2 3/4" of space.

FYI, the entire installation of the duct under the cabinet was done poorly and there is a 5" gap between the end of the duct and the face of the toe kick. Picture at the link.

Thanks for any tips.
