My contractor butted up the corners in the shower is that right or do I have to rip the wall out and retile. Very hard to grout with no corner space . I can only caulk it .

yes you should caulk it, grout will not stay in a corner too long.

Should there have been a 1/16 gap at the corner or butted up tile is correctly installed

yes there should be a small gap to accept caulk and for movement. good possibility of tiles cracking in the future if it is too tight.

You shouldn't have to redo the whole wall. You can always cut a relief space in with a mini or roto tool and mini masonry disc bit thing if you are panicked.

Leave it alone for now it may be just fine. Other than that I would agree with Mike 100%. Caulk it and forget it.
