Okay, correctly posting on this forum this time. Made the mistake of putting it on contractortalk's forum.

Please look at the pics below. This was a whole house remodel (gut). The tile was installed before carpet (both new).

Some questions I'd like answered.
- Is this transition correct?
- For new flooring, remodel or new construction, is this acceptable?
- Is there a fix? (I don't think there is since whatever we put will still be visible)

not right, but nothing you can do with it either. The inside flooring should stop at the door stop. This way you see only the flooring for each room in that room when the door is closed. One possible fix is to make a material neutral threshold between the two floors centered under the door. Marble or Oak thresholds come to mind.

3. Yes, Bob is right, a threshold piece would solve your problem. Just make sure they're done the same way. The tile can be cut back to 1/2 way under door, then choose a width of threshold that is appropriate to the design of the house.

Looking at it again, a gold metal tile/carpet transition strip may work in your case, Need to find a wider one.

Problem with this is that when you open the door, the tile will look weird since the sub started in the back of the room thus having the smaller piece in front. If we were to cut it, or put a threshold, it would leave around an inch and a half of tile. Thanks guys, appreciate the responses.

Wide metal? yes but what a crappy look.

Cutting the tile back ONLY if the carpet can get the additional stretch is the only thing I would accept.
Yes the tile will be thinner but it would look better than wide metal.

Was the Carpet existing?
Was it cut back to fit the tile? Or was it already it's current length?

This is in the basement of our home. The laundry room and hallway were concrete. Carpet is new. Tile is new. After the framing, the tile went in the laundry room first. Next day the carpet went in (carpet was the last thing before punch list items).

This is the look into the hallway. Bathroom straight, garage door to the right with the mudroom inset to the left of the garage door. The laundry room (not pictured) is to the left of the bathroom.

The carpeted and tiled areas were concrete prior to the remodel.

Tile guy is at fault.
Should have checked the door...plain and simple....
Go with a crappy cover up or have them cut the tile back ONLY if the carpet can be restretched back into the door.

I'd take out that entire small strip of tile & put in a threshold
I'd use marble

I've seen this happen when the doors get put in after the floors and the flooring guys do not know what the door swing will be.

Except for the fact that they joined in the middle of the door frame. Either swing would show the joint.
