So, the guy who we hired to do our tile work for us ended up causing more problems than good. He installed the tile and grouted it. Well it's a long story, but basically my husband paid him for the job before he was 100% done and he did't finish up.. (big mistake on my husbands part). So I scrubbed the haze off and put the threshold things on.. Well my husband and I put the bathroom door back on tonight, we thought we were done. I shut the door and noticed this-(photo attached). The guy tiled too far!! And cut the carpet back apparently. I didn't realize when I put on the threshold thing. What do we do? Is there any way we can fix this?? It's going from our hallway to the main bathroom. I thought the threshold thing was too far out When I was attaching it... .ugh. This whole situation has been a mess and we are beyond stressed out and upset about this. Any ideas? :(

I would cut the tile back to under the door and install a wide oak (or marble) threshold.

I really feel your pain.
The tiler was quite incompetent.

Since you have paid him - - -!?!?

I would cut the tile back to under the door and install a wide oak (or marble) threshold.
This would require significant work for you. (or a contractor.)
I suggest that you leave any option which involves the cutting of any tiles and replacing the cut sections with anything until the NEXT time that you re-carpet. (Make sure that you NOW have sufficient replacement tiles [and paint for "re-touching"] to replace ANY tiles which may be damaged and to repair any paint work which may be damaged in this process.)

In the mean time, you could paint the tiles and the "threshold thing" to match the paint work (and carpet).
Or, you could lay a "veneer" of a colour matched thin material on top of these items (Such as an "Oak" wood veneer - appropriately sealed.)

However, any such "veneer job" must be regarded as a compromise, and would require some "maintenance" - as would any paint-job.

Can you put the door on the carpet side of the frame?
You could do this BUT
1. This would be significant work for you (or a contractor) - including refitting hinges and filling, repairing and repainting the space where the previous hinges were PLUS
2. The door would then open outwards.
Is there enough room for this and do you want this?

Thanks everyone! I am so beyond frustrated about this. This guy did a TERRIBLE job.. and my husband has been reamed plenty by me, his mother and everyone else who he has told about paying the guy before the job was 100% done. I was not home when he paid him and didn't find out til the guy texted us making excuses for why he couldn't complete the job yesterday. So we had to do all the remaining stuff ourselves and luckily my FIL was in town (they were coming to our sons tee-ball game, which we ended up having to miss) and he knew how to replace the toil with the new wax ring and whatnot. Thank goodness!

I did see that the tile could be cut back, but not something we want to try. I do have a square of unused carpet in the garage that we have never used. It was just excess. Do you think we could just cut a piece of this matching carpet out that would fit in that spot and adhere it to the tiles somehow? Yes it would be temporary and luckily there is plenty.. so if it gets ripped up I could place another piece. We do plan to redo the living room and hallway eventually, but can't afford to at the moment. So do you think this could be a good option. Luckily it's the shaggy kind of carpet so it would be easy to make it look like it belongs there. What would you use to adhere it?

I should add.. he got sealant he put all over the sub floor ALL over our recently painted cabinets and wall.. he was not careful at all.. so I'm going to have to repaint it probably. OH and the door is scraping the floor when we shut it. Can we just sand some off the bottom?

Unless there is a cold air return in the room, you should have 5/8 or 3/4 inch of space under the door to act as a cold air return.
Usually this is done by skil saw.
Then sand out the skil saw marks.

Make sure to prime and paint the cut bottom to minimise the risk of the door warping.

There is "Carpet adhesive" but it is not very strong and may not be suitable for a small well trafficked area, such as this. Rubber cement (as used for laminates) would hold better. While it would be difficult to remove, that may not matter if you will eventually cut/replace the tiles.

If the door NOW scrapes the floor it will jam and move any carpet you put down, unless you cut off the thickness of the carpet.

However, because it now DOES scrape on the tiles, you WILL need to remove the door and trim some timber from the bottom of it - in any case.

As jlhaslip said:- "Make sure to prime and paint the cut bottom to minimise the risk of the door warping."
