tile butting to threshold

6358 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  funfool
putting tile floor in entryway, the tile will butt right up to threshold with no problems. question is do i leave a small gap between threshold and tile then caulk it or fill with grout. my worries are the use of the door in the future and the impact of opening and clsing it. have kids that slam door occasionally. will this cause tiles to loosen or pop.

Leave a small line and use tile caulk.
I have seen others and am guilty myself of grouting that joint. After a few years grout line will crack from movement in the threshold. While the caulk will not.

You want at least a 1/8" joint to caulk, ideal you want to match the spacing of the rest of the tile, but a 1/4" caulk joint would not look that good. Use your own judgment here.
