I have a 2013 Ford Edge Limited with tan seats. The driver's seat is ripped at the seam in the center of the seat. Should I replace the seat or get it repaired? I see entire seats for sale on eBay but I tend to be very suspicious of sales there. Is there an efficient way to check out wrecker yards? Has anyone ever used a wrecker yard to replace components of a vehicle?

Thoughts?

I would replace just the cover. It's not a bad job, but bad enough that I wouldn't want to go through it twice so would buy new rather than spending the time trying to find one and then pull it off another vehicle only to find that the replacement wasn't as good as it looked. I typically buy from one of my local independent parts stores when possible, but for something like this would go through 0ne of the large parts stores. Or you could get it from the dealer, but pretty sure that would be way more expensive than otherwise necessary.

Can you "park" the vehicle for 2 weeks, or do you need it for your life activities?

Remove the seat, take it to a re-upholstery shop.

Or get a seat cover from the local auto parts store, and install it over a weekend.

Remove the seat from the car, it's much easier out of the car.

This new cover will not match the others, so be prepared for that.

Use "GORILLA TAPE", to patch the split until you decide who, what, where, you are going to do about this.

I’ve bought the OEM covers off eBay just the bottom and replaced it myself a couple times. I’m in and out of my truck all day long and wear the edge of the seat. It’s just manual labor, not too hard. Just remove and reuse the same clips. Don’t make any money if my truck is in the shop so I do most of the work myself. Also I spend almost all of my spare time tinkering on one project or another so don’t mind doing it. I’ve never done the top though.
