The nut attached to copper gas line will not screw back in, does it have a reverse thread, tighten the opposite way to normal.

Turn opposite way until it catches the thread, then slowly thrn to make sure you are not cross threading.

Regular right hand thread, but as gregzoll said, you gotta be really careful to not cross thread it. You also have to make sure you're going in perfectly straight. It's easy to get just a little bit crooked and it won't work.
